The Sound That Cuts the Day

Bronze · For the moment between one day and the next

One sound. One threshold. A few seconds in which the day changes.

SOLUMA's Three-Pure Bell (三清铃) takes its name from the three foundational principles of Daoist thought — Yuqing, Shangqing, Taiqing — representing the purity of spirit, of energy, and of form. In Daoist ceremonial practice, the bell is rung to mark a threshold: not to summon, not to signal, but to tell the person holding it that something has shifted. That the state that was before the ring is different from the state that comes after.

The bell is hand-cast in bronze using a traditional lost-wax method — a casting technique that produces the specific tonal quality that machine production cannot replicate. When struck, it produces a clear, sustained ring that decays gradually, resolving into complete silence in approximately eight seconds. Those eight seconds are not incidental. They are the object's function. They are a brief, acoustically enforced pause in which the transition is allowed to happen.

Ring it when you leave work. Ring it before you sit down to eat. Ring it before bed. Let the sound tell your nervous system what your mind already knows — that one state is ending, and a quieter one is beginning.

The striker is turned from rosewood. The stand is padded with natural silk. Both are included.
